C the C3 for yourself

Citroen has remained tight-lipped and very secretive about the 2010 C3 supermini but first test mules have been spied in Southern Spain.

The newcomer will be smaller and lighter than the outgoing model which has been on the EU market since 2002. The new C3 will take design cues from the recently revealed C3 Picasso but still keep its own individual design.

“We do not want to produce Russian dolls,” said Carlo Bonzanigo, head of concept design at Citroen, “and as long as we communicate clearly the values of the Citroen brand then we have a lot of freedom of design.”

Citroen is also making a push towards “a more upper-class, premium feel” across the range, according to Bonzanigo, so expect a big improvement in materials, layout and usable space inside the next C3. The stop-start system already in use in the current C3 hatch will also appear in the next-generation model and the new C3 Picasso. An XTR variant will be available for the Latin American market in 2011.
